Countryman -- Willie Nelson

I'm listening to Countryman, Willie Nelson's new CD. It's reggae. Willie does some of his own numbers ("One in a Row") and some well-known reggae songs ("The Harder they Fall"). And you know what? I like it.

  1. Does this mean I should rush out and buy a ticket for Willie's concert tonight in Winnipeg? According to the Winnipeg Sun today, Willie may not do any reggae numbers as he keeps forgetting to add them to his play list. On the other hand the Winnipeg Free Press says in a headline that "country icon Willie Nelson may trot out reggae tunes" and goes on to say that "he has sporadically played some songs from this new record at concerts over the past few months. The paper's music critic doesn't like the album as much as you and gave it ** 1/2 stars on Saturday and called it an "oddball collection bulked up with a Jamaican-style version of Johnny Cash's I'm A Worried Man and a pair of Jimmy Cliff covers." Tickets are $45 to $65.

  2. It's an oddball collection, all right. Maybe that's why I like it. But then I like Willie's picking and singing in just about any format.

  3. With as much weed as Willie's inhaled, it was only a matter of time.

Is there anything Willie hasn't recorded at one time or another? I think not.
