For Those of You Who are Curious. . .

. . . about the covers mentioned in some of the comments on the Heinlein post below, this is what we're talking about.

  1. Given the nonchalance of the woman in the last cover, perhaps the giant crustacean is in more potential trouble (or, soon, drawn butter) than the image would suggest.

Paul Fairman famously didn't read the fiction he published...I wonder if B.G. Davis was responsible for approving the covers. Or, for that matter, why Davis hired Fairman as Managing Editor under Dannay at EQMM after setting up Davis Publications and buying it.

During Ms. Goldsmith's editorship, the covers improved...or disimproved, depending on your POV. But I suspect she didn't have much control over them, either. I think the world deserved at least one Manly Banister special issue in her later career as Z-D's head editor of bridal magazines: "Magnathropus and His Bridesmaids of Pain!"

I guess I have to write that now and submit it to OUT OF THE GUTTERS...

  2. Sounds like a winner to me, Todd.

  3. Just look at the size of those monsters!
