Chris Farley Died Ten Years Ago Today

Hard to believe it's been that long. I still think of John Belushi's death as recent.

THAT WAS AWESOME!: "December 16, 2007 -- Chris Farley came into this world on Feb. 15, 1964, weighing 12 pounds, 11 ounces. By age 33, he was gone, 296 pounds and dead of a drug overdose on Dec. 18, 1997."

It may sound harsh, but every time I saw him I thought of John Vernon's line in Animal House: "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son."

A waste.

He was unfortunately rather like the jazz musicians who used the excuse of Charlie Parker and others being junkies to choose to get hooked on heroine themselves, or at least a pathetic attempt at rationalization. Wanted to be John Belushi all his life, and except for the intelligence (such it was, and that ultimately didn't do JB much good), he made it. Farley was born about six months before I was, which is sobering in its own way...
