Oh yes, Forrest Gump. That doofus. Way better than Don Corleone, Fast Eddie Felson, Shane, Mrs Robinson, Tony Montana, Rhett Butler, Cody Jarrett, Eddie Coyle, Tom Joad, or King Kong.
Most of the stuff shown is good, but I can't get behind calling most listed as the "best". It can't be just generational: I never saw any Marx Bros. until the mid-60s when I was in my 20s and I think their best comedies are The best. Must be different cultural subsets in the main general American culture.
I think I'd go with Tarzan or James Bond. Look at how they've lasted.
