Word is that big chunks of this were directed by Yak Canutt and Sergio Leone. Be that as it may, I liked the way producer/director Wise compensated for the weak script with intelligent casting: Tough-guy Stanley Baker only has to walk on and you believe he's Achilles. Likewise one look at Harry Andrews' craggy face tells you all you have to know about Hector. Which is wise (pun intended) because the parts ain't wroten too good. It goes on, with Niall MacGInnis, Robert Douglas and Torin Thatcher adding dimension to parts of legend.
