Rodney King was troubled at 27 when he had his famous run-in with the police and he died at 47 a troubled man. His girl-friend said Rodney drank heavily all day before he fell in the pool.
I was working in Los Angeles and pregnant with my first child when the king verdict and subsequent riots took place. I remember driving home from work (they told us to go home in the afternoon when it was obvious things were getting very dire) and looking from the freeway, seeing smoke hanging over the city. Until my husband was on a plane on September 11 and I didn't hear from him for several hours, it was the most scared I've ever felt. I'm sorry king never achieved any peace or stability on his life.

He had his fifteen minutes at least. "Can't we all just get along." More pertinent today than ever.
