I was on a beach trip in Florida in an old Winnebago with a bunch of guys before college started back again when the Quayle pick was announced. We were all like wait, he picked who???

Possibly most of them would have done better if they'd taken a page from Millard Fillmore's playbook and had NO vice president.

Actually, Millard Fillmore was Vice-President to Zachary Taylor.
When he succeeded to the Presidency following Taylor's death, there was no Constitutional provision for appointing a new VP.
I'll bet he'd have liked to have one though - even as thin as the Whig pickings were back then.
